A young man was getting ready to graduate from college. For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer's showroom, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted. As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had purchased the car. Finally, on the morning of his graduation, his father called him into his private study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son a beautiful wrapped gift box. Curious, but somewhat disappointed, the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with the young man's name embossed in gold. Angrily, he raised his voice to his father and said, "With all your money you give me a Bible?" and stormed out of the house, leaving the Bible. Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realized his father was very old, and thought perhaps he should go visit him. He had not seen him since that graduation day. Before he could make arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son. When he arrived at his father's house, Sadness and regret filled his heart. He began to search through his father's important papers and saw the still new Bible, just as he had left it years ago. With tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. His father had carefully underlined verse, As he read those words, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible. My dear brothers and sisters, many of us do not know the value of the Word of God. In this busy world we spare time for everything except to read the word of God. God created and upholds us by his Word, redeems us by re-narrating our lives by his gospel, and directs us by his commands so that our words become more conformed to his Word. Timothy 3:16 says “All Scripture is breathed out by God and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right” “For the word of God is living…” The Bible, the word of God, is unlike any other book you have in your home or in the library
The Word of God gives:
-
Realization- King David says in Psalms 119:104, Through your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
-
Hope - Many of us run our without a hope. But the scriptures encourages us with hope and that’s why the bible says in Hebrews 12: 1, Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.”
-
Joy - The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; The precepts of the LORD are right, giving joy to the heart.
-
Light, Warning & Reward- The commands of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the LORD are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb. They are a warning to your servant, a great reward for those who obey them.
-
Blessing- (Revelation 1:3) Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near. whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prosper. Psalm 1.
